CPD Points Guide

Understanding and Earning CPD Points with REPs

What is Continuing Professional Development (CPD)?

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a way for exercise professionals to demonstrate their commitment to ongoing learning and development throughout their careers. By keeping their skills and knowledge up to date, they can work safely, legally, and effectively.

As a REPs member, you are required to achieve 24 CPD points every two years. If you achieve more than 24 CPD points, up to 8 points can be carried forward into the next two-year period.

When you first register with REPs, you are awarded 20 CPD points per entry qualification. In most cases, members are not required to achieve any additional CPD points in their first year of registration, as they will have already reached the required amount for the year.

Points for CPD:

  • Courses (minimum 8 hours and include a formal assessment) earn 8-16 CPD points based on the number of learning hours. 1 CPD point for each hour up to a maximum of 16 CPD points.
  • Workshops (minimum of 4 hours with no assessment required) earn 4-6 CPD points based on the number of learning hours. 1 CPD point for each hour up to a maximum of 6 CPD points.
  • Other (minimum 1 hour) earn 1-3 CPD points based on the number of learning hours. 1 CPD point for each hour up to a maximum of 3 CPD points. This category applies to any training that is not a Course or Workshop and includes conferences, podcasts, reading material, and masterclasses.

Points for Qualifications:

  • Qualifications on the RQF that give entry to a 'Level' on the REPs register earn 20 CPD points.
  • Qualifications on the RQF that do not give entry to a 'Level' on the REPs register earn 1-16 CPD points based on the number of learning hours. 1 CPD point for each hour up to a maximum of 16 CPD points.

Logging CPD

To log your CPD points, you can complete an online form in the REPs Members dashboard and upload the required certificate. Once we have reviewed your submission, we will award the appropriate CPD points.

Please note that REPs only recognises endorsed courses. If a course is not endorsed, we will not recognise it, and you will not be awarded any CPD points for completing that course. Always ensure that the courses you take are endorsed by REPs to make the most of your ongoing professional development.

CPD Badges and Course Endorsement

CPD badges on courses indicate the number of CPD points that the course carries. All courses on our directory are the only ones we endorse. If a training provider or course is not listed, then we do not recognise them, and their course offering could be potentially worthless. We encourage exercise professionals to report any course with a REPs CPD badge that is not listed in our directory, as this is fraudulent misrepresentation and could lead to legal action.

Difference Between Qualifications and CPD Endorsement

A qualification is a formal certification that demonstrates an individual's competence in a specific subject or skill, whereas CPD endorsement refers to the recognition of ongoing learning and development activities, both regulated and non-regulated, that contribute to an individual's professional growth. CPD endorsement allows exercise professionals to enhance their knowledge and skills beyond their initial qualifications, ensuring they stay up to date with the latest industry developments and best practices.

In conclusion, CPD is an essential aspect of an exercise professional's career, as it allows them to stay current with industry standards, maintain their skills, and further their professional development. REPs is committed to supporting its members in achieving their CPD requirements and recognises the importance of quality training to ensure professionals deliver the highest standards of service to their clients.

By providing a comprehensive list of endorsed courses and a clear CPD points system, REPs helps exercise professionals find and select the most suitable training for their needs. Furthermore, by actively monitoring the use of CPD badges and endorsements, REPs maintains the integrity of its membership, ensuring that only approved training providers and courses are recognised within the industry.

As an exercise professional, it is crucial to take responsibility for your professional development and continually update your skills and knowledge. By adhering to the CPD requirements set by REPs and engaging in endorsed training, you can ensure that you stay at the forefront of the industry, providing the best possible service to your clients and advancing your career.

Verify CPD Badges for Quality Training

When browsing training provider websites, always look for the official REPs CPD badge. The badge displays the number of CPD points the course carries and serves as a mark of endorsement from REPs. To verify the authenticity of a CPD badge and ensure the course is listed on our register, visit our online directory to search for the course. By choosing a course with a genuine REPs CPD badge, you can be confident that you are investing in quality training that contributes to your professional development.
